BFA Alumna Dana Steffe is “One to Watch”

July 15, 2009

It’s been a challenge coming up with something original to say about Dana Steffe, a recent Web Design + New Media BFA Alumna.

While she placed second in the Video category this year at AAU’s Spring Show for her playful stop motion video created for Canon, her work has already been featured in top design magazines such as PRINT magazine’s design annual, ID, Step 100 and AIGA 365. Oh, and she works at the Cuban Council. You know, that award-winning design firm in San Francisco and New York City?

Dana grew up in Michigan, but moved to San Francisco at 19 to attend AAU and pursue a career in graphic design. As a WNM student, she learned print, web, motion and interactive skills, which she attributes to being selected for Project M in 2007, an experimental program organized by renowned designer John Bielenberg. She was one of seven design students that lived and worked together in Hale County, Alabama on a campaign to bring clean water to underprivileged citizens in that community. So far, Project M has raised over $40,000.

Perhaps Dana’s success has a lot to do with her work ethic? While attending AAU, she interned at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art where she worked on the Olafur Eliasson interactive education website and at Language in Common, a communications design studio where she helped design Written on the City, a book about message graffiti.

Do you want to know more about Dana? In January 2009, she graced the pages of GD: USA’s coveted “Ones to Watch” issue.

This lady is on fire!
